Meera lit a small diya at the temple gate. "It is so tiny," she said. "Will anyone see it?" Her grandfather smiled. "One lamp can light a hundred more, and it never gets smaller." That evening, other children came and lit their lamps from hers, until the whole path glowed. Meera learned that sharing a good thing makes it grow.

Every morning, a flag is raised above the hill. Arjun asked why people stop and stand still. His teacher said, "They remember the brave people who gave everything so that we could be free." Arjun stood straight, and for the first time he felt how quiet and proud a morning can be.

A lotus seed lay deep in the muddy pond. "It is dark and dirty here," it sighed. But it kept growing, a little each day, until one morning it opened in the sun. The villagers said, "How beautiful!" The lotus smiled, because it remembered the mud that helped it grow.
